Urban Air Quality and Traffic Emissions: How EURO-6d and Emission Control Technology will Address the Problem
The “Urban Air Quality and Traffic Emissions: How EURO-6d and Emission Control Technology will Address the Problem” dinner debate hosted by the European Energy Forum with the support of FuelsEurope took place in Strasbourg on 6 February 2018.
John Cooper, Director General of Fuels Europe, set the scene for discussion by sharing the results of the studies commissioned by EU Refining and dedicated to the performance of new EURO 6d diesel cars under RDE conditions, as well as the impact of the emissions level on urban air quality by 2030.
The event aimed at discussing the following questions:
- Is the Real Driving Emission (RDE) test procedure an effective regulatory approach and a step-change versus the previous laboratory-only tests?
- Can we expect that the ICE vehicle replacement scenario will achieve the level of air quality improvement comparable to the scenario which assumes widespread zero emission vehicles deployment?
- Can EURO 6d and/or the Zero Emission Vehicles scenarios deliver 100% compliance with air quality standards by 2030?
- What short term measures can EU cities apply to improve their compliance
- Is there a one-fits-all solution?
